Coaching in Boston
Laurie Schloff has spent most of a thirty-year career coaching in and around this city, and several of the people who coach alongside her still live here. That is an unglamorous fact and it is the whole reason this page exists: of the metros we work in regularly, Boston is the one where we can honestly say the practice grew up rather than arrived. It is also the city that voted her one of its top ten coaches — a recognition the site has published for years and one we did not go looking for.
What that means in practice is a familiarity with how this particular market talks. The density of life sciences here, from Kendall Square out along the western suburbs, has shaped a lot of what we do: an enormous share of the coaching has been with scientific and clinical leaders who have to make an audience of investors, regulators or their own commercial colleagues follow an argument built on evidence those people will never read in full. Add the universities and teaching hospitals, and you get a professional culture where being right is assumed and being followed is the actual scarce skill.
There is no office and no address on this page because there is not one to publish. We are a coaching practice, not a training center, and the honest version is that our clients here are met where they work or on the screen they already spend the day in.
How the sessions run
Because we live here, in-person sessions in the Boston area are genuinely straightforward — at your offices, for a leadership team or a workshop day, without anybody booking a plane ticket. That said, most Boston clients still choose video, for the reason everyone chooses video: an hour on Zoom costs an hour, and an hour in a room costs three. Around nine in ten sessions across the whole practice happen that way.
Who we tend to work with here
Biotech and healthcare leaders make up the largest single share — enough that they have their own page, communication coaching for biotech. After that: financial services and asset management, the professional-services firms that sell to both, and the university and hospital administrators who present to boards that take a governance view of everything.
Engagements are usually one of two shapes — a single senior leader over ten to twenty sessions, or a cohort in three to six ninety-minute group sessions. Both are set out with prices on how an engagement runs, and both begin with a complimentary conversation with Laurie rather than with a proposal.
