Coaching in New York
Laurie works with clients in New York often enough that she is periodically in the city doing it — this page was written in a month when she was. That is the extent of our presence here, and we would rather say so than imply an address we do not have. What we do bring is thirty years of coaching the kind of leader New York produces in unusual concentration: someone senior, extremely quick, and operating in front of audiences who have already made up their minds about three other people this quarter.
The city sets the tempo of the coaching. Rooms here interrupt. A deck that unfolds patiently toward its point tends to get its point extracted at slide four by someone who has stopped waiting, and the leaders who do well are the ones who have decided in advance what survives that. So a lot of the work is front-loading: the first ninety seconds, the answer given before the supporting argument, and the discipline of holding forty facts in reserve for questions instead of spending them up front.
The other pattern particular to this market is how many of these leaders are, professionally, always slightly on the record. Financial services, media, and the advisory firms that orbit them all share the feature that a phrase said internally on Tuesday can be quoted externally on Thursday. Coaching that ignores this produces people who are compelling and indiscreet, which is not the outcome anybody wanted.
How the sessions run
Most New York engagements run on video, which suits calendars that are booked in fifteen-minute pieces — a session drops into a gap rather than costing a morning. When the work genuinely needs a room, a rehearsal on the actual stage, a leadership day, a team that has to practice handing off to each other, Laurie travels in for it, and the travel is quoted openly rather than buried.
The work this usually turns into
Three engagements come up more than any others here. A raise or a client pitch, which is investor pitch coaching. A leader being put in front of press, cameras or a conference stage, which is media training. And the broad one — a senior person whose judgment is trusted and whose delivery is not yet doing that judgment any favors.
If you are choosing for a desk, a deal team or a whole client-facing function rather than for one person, the sector page is more useful than this one: communication coaching for financial services.

Laurie is just simply "awesome", she will bring you to places that you never thought were possible. Working with Laurie has really been transformational for me, to say the least. Her sessions go way beyond teaching you to speak at a presentation. Words could never describe what Laurie has taught me. She is an inspiration who not only helped me understand how to increase my self-confidence, but also coached me on how to be committed to preparation/readiness.
